Cabinplant is nominated for the 2024 Workplace Environment Award in the “Chemicals and/or Wet Work” category.
We are proud to announce that Cabinplant, located in Haarby, has been nominated for the 2024 Workplace Environment Award in the “Chemicals and/or Wet Work” category. This recognition highlights our commitment to enhancing workplace safety through responsible chemical use.
Our journey began with a thorough review of our chemical products, which led to the decision to replace eight hazardous chemicals with two eco-friendly, biodegradable alternatives. These changes not only benefit our 230 employees by promoting a healthier work environment but also demonstrate our dedication to sustainability and protecting the natural world.
A directive to improve chemical handling initiated a series of proactive measures within our company. As a manufacturer of machinery for the food industry, we recognize the importance of prioritizing safety. The new products we have adopted are less harmful to both our employees and the environment and are packaged in refillable bottles, further reducing our carbon footprint.
“We started by assessing our existing products and identifying those that could be replaced. Our goal was to find alternatives that are more environmentally friendly, and we succeeded. We believe it is essential to eliminate hazardous products in favor of safer options,” says Henrik Wellejus, our blacksmith and occupational health and safety representative.
To ensure continued safety, all requests for new products must now be approved by our health and safety representative and the workplace health and safety organization. This process not only minimizes the use of hazardous substances but also raises awareness about the ingredients in the products we use daily.
Our advice is that you review your chemical products: Chemical products play a vital role in many industries, and our experience demonstrates that it’s possible to find and utilize less harmful alternatives.
“My best advice to other companies is to conduct a thorough review of their chemical products. Often, it’s possible to switch to less hazardous options,” Henrik Wellejus adds.
Inspiring change through simple solutions: We believe that other workplaces can learn from our initiatives. Louise Høst, Chair of the Workplace Environment Council, acknowledges our efforts, stating, “Cabinplant’s actions exemplify how straightforward it can be to integrate environmental and employee well-being into the workplace. Their commitment to replacing hazardous products should inspire others to take a closer look at their own operations and consider potential improvements.”
