Rice processing

Rice provides more than one fifth of the total calories consumed by humans, with a world production in 2005 of 619 mio. tons. Although the majority of this is consumed after cooking in the household, an increasing part is processed industrially for use in e.g. ready-made dinners, frozen mixes with vegetables, etc.

Cabinplant can supply complete processing lines for colouring and pre-cooking of rice. Capacities range from approx. 500 kg to 9 tons per hour, and the rice is either frozen or dried prior to subsequent processing. A typical processing line is described below:

  • Infeed to the processing line from Big Bags
  • Colouring of the rice in a specially designed paddle mixing unit. The system is bypassed when white rice is processed.
  • Soaking of the rice to add weight and to improve the quality of the rice
  • Cooking and cooling of the rice in an integrated blancher. Different additives can be added during the cooking process.
  • Dewatering prior to freezing or drying to avoid lumps in the product and to increase the running time and capacity of the freezer/dryer
  • Multihead weighing and packing into e.g. bags
